Yorkshire Pudding

Yorkshire Pudding is a British food recipe of batter cooked in fat.
  • ½ cup flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • pinch of pepper
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp vegetable shortening
  • ¼ cup cold water
  1. In a bowl, sift flour and baking powder. Mix in salt and pepper.
  2. Make a hollow in the center of flour mixture and crack egg into it. Stir well. Add milk gradually and beat until smooth. Refrigerate at least half an hour.
  3. Preheat the oven to 425F.
  4. Put shortening in an baking pan. Melt shortening on top shelf of the oven.
  5. Pour cold water onto chilled pudding batter and stir well. Then pour mixture into melted shortening in the baking pan. Return pan to top shelf of oven for 20 minutes.
  6. Cut pudding into squares.

  1. This is the real YORKSHIRE Pudding my Dear English Mother made for us kids growing up in the 40’s to the 90’s.

    BUT, instead of the water Mom used the beef juice from the roast she just cooked to perfection. That PUDDING taste has never left me and I now have a recipe she must have used to perform this delicious food.

    RIP Mom…
